With the impressive goal of delivering ‘inside-out’ theatre, this new performing arts centre reveals its stage and backstage areas to the street outside. The innovative, glass-fronted façade allows passers-by to see inside the building and catch a glimpse of backstage activities and rehearsals. Located in the heart of Leicester City, Curve is the flagship of the council’s overall plan to revitalise and regenerate the city centre and it is set to become a symbolic landmark for cultural industries both regionally and nationally.
The theatre features two auditoria with a full capacity of 1,000 seats. These two spaces sandwich the main stage, and the seating area can be cropped or expanded by lifting or dropping acoustic safety curtains.
The grid covers the entire performance area, meaning that anyone or anything can be lifted at any location in the main stage or studio, using Stage Technologies comprehensive automated power flying system. The system comprises 88 BigTow winches and a MaxisID control system operated by Nomad control desks. The main auditorium is equipped with a total of 76 winches and an additional 12 portable point hoists.
